Welcome to the Orchid Society of Coral Gables.

We are an active and enthusiastic group of orchid lovers. We meet at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Garden room. Use the ‘old’ South entrance and go through the metal gate to the left of the entrance with the gatehouse. Go through the patio area and around to the right and into the building.
  •  Each month we have a program, either a speaker with pictures discussing an orchid related subject or a lecture and demonstration of some aspect of orchid care.  We have a beginners culture class before each meeting.
  •  We bring our blooming plants in for ’Show and Tell.'
  •   We have a raffle table of 20 or more orchid plants usually brought in by the speaker, and raffle tickets are sold.
  •  The ‘Silent Auction’ is a sale of plants brought in by members for other members to bid on, and usually sell for considerably under retail prices. They are sometimes plants that the member no longer has room for and sometimes they are divisions of large plants that members are cutting up and selling ‘bare root.’ Both the raffle and the silent auction are a great way to expand your orchid collection.
  • We have a large lending library of orchid books and periodicals.
  •  We also have the best refreshment table in town, with volunteers providing a pot luck meal  particularly valued by those who come straight to the meeting from work.
  •  During the year we participate in several volunteer activities, such as putting in exhibits at the Tamiami Orchid Show in January (we won first prize for this exhibit) and at our own Fairchild Show in March, and selling plants at the Ramble in November. Volunteers for these events make new friends and are challenged to learn new skills and more about orchids.
  • Members have occasional  'open houses'  and sometimes we arrange field trips to local growers. We have a fund raising orchid Auction in June, and a fantastic holiday party in December with great food, live music and a free plant for each member. The people who have attended the most meetings get to chose their plants first, and perfect attendance gets you two plants!

Dues are $20 per year for a single member and $30 for a couple.  A great value!

Everyone is to relax and enjoy the camaraderie of the society.  We encourage you to volunteer for something and get to know other members who share your interests. At the meetings you will learn how to better care for your plants.  We have lots of experts available to guide you through that sometimes challenging experience of plant care. Meet your board members who will be glad to show you around if you are new, and answer your questions.
